Team Building Game: Outrageous

Employee orienteering in Disneyland with 'Outrageous Productions'
Corporate event specialists, Outrageous Productions approached Tangent 90 to help in the creation of a new employee orientation event for their client Marconi. Called “What a Difference a Day Makes”, 800 new Marconi employees from different parts of the globe were brought together at Disneyland Paris to encourage international teamworking and increase networking, whilst also re-enforcing the client's internal values, “The Marconi Way”.
Tangent 90 contributed at two levels. The first by developing an interactive quiz system for the live event, with game questions being themed specifically around the four different lands of Disneyland. Each team was split, so three to four members stayed at the base while the rest went to the land displayed on the computer screen. Due to the large number of contestants it was necessary to rotate the teams into the different lands, which was controlled automatically by the game. The three hour game posed multiple-choice questions about different parts of Disneyland that the team had to answer correctly to gain points. The base team had to communicate to the field team the question, and sometimes describe photographs, throughout the game using 64 mobile phones!
At a second level, Tangent 90 helped with web development support. Outrageous split the 800 employees into 32 teams. Each team was set the task of developing a website to represent their understanding of the 'Marconi Way'. The teams were given password protected areas on the Marconi intranet webserver, where they developed their sites in private. Outrageous sourced stock photography, while Tangent 90 encoded the client's corporate videos, and brought everything together onto CDROMs which each team received in their orientation pack. The completed sites were on display at the event where they were marked by a panel of judges.
The event won a Silver IVCA award. “The Event was an outstanding success and will be hard to surpass next year. The feedback from the participants has been glowing". Hans Brown, Orientation Project Manager, Marconi.
