Quiz Game: Motivaction

Motivaction - The Matrix
Motivaction needed help with an issue when rotating delegates between activities at team building and motivational events. They had devised a way to achieve this using an interactive game. This would track the whereabouts of delegates whilst also recording team scores and would form the basis for the theme of the events. The idea of the game, called 'The Matrix', was for the delegates to hack their way through a computer system to crack the inner core and bring down "The Matrix". They would require passwords for the various levels to unlock access points, which the other members of their team would gain in outdoor activities. The better their team did, the better the password, and the more points allocated.
The system had to be very flexible, easy to maintain and portable so as to easily configure, install and network the systems within a matter of hours before each event. It was to be high tech in appearance, but easy to navigate & understand as delegates would be under pressure to complete each task quickly. The first event to use the system would have over 50 computers networked together, and over 500 delegates!
Tangent 90's first task was to specify the hardware and software necessary to run the quiz, plus keep it within the budget. Once agreed, the next task was programming and interface design. Motivaction supplied a detailed storyboard as to game play but left the look and feel to Tangent 90's discretion. Using our past experience of motion picture design and quiz systems, we produced an absorbing game with a futuristic look and feel consisting of 3D animations, videos of live actors, interactive graphics and puzzles.
The 'Matrix' has been a great success for Motivaction, and is still being used on a regular basis since its launch in August 2000. Following this success, Tangent 90 were commissioned to create a follow up game called 'Synergy'. We also created a specially tailored version for Dell Computers that was played simultaneously in 22 countries across Dell's corporate intranet.
