Telecon webcasting. Smart thinking delivers Dell's monthly partner briefings.

Like so many large corporations, Dell manages many of its internal communication through monthly telephone briefings. Of special importance are Dell's 400 partners based in emerging markets such as Latin America, India and the Baltic states. But Dell found that only a handful of these partners were attending these phone briefings on a regular basis and even these numbers were declining, partially due to excessive telecon call costs. One partner from Uzbekistan expressed it directly by saying that at $200 for the monthly conference call, the ‘cost is too high for us to bear’.

Dell approached us to see if Tangent 90 could come up with a solution, and we did it by creating ‘telephone webcasting’.

Each month Tangent 90 technicians dial into the existing conference call and rebroadcast it on the web at a narrow enough rate to work on any modem speed. The slides that accompany the briefings are converted from Powerpoint into Flash and simultaneously broadcast live. Tangent 90 has long specialised in narrowband webcasting allowing us to reach remote audiences that other broadband providers frequently regard as “unreachable” or “of little value”.

In addition, the entire briefing is archived permanently on the web, allowing the Dell Partners to access this information wherever and whenever they want. The ultra-narrowband webcast has more than quadrupled the attendance of the live partner briefings, with even more Partners reviewing the archives. The solution has been so successful that Dell have now increased the briefings from monthly to weekly.
